Photos from the 2013 Cybersocket Web Awards

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Wednesday evening, Cybersocket held their 13th Annual Cybersocket Web Awards at The Factory Nightclub in West Hollywood, CA. The Cybersocket Web Awards is the only event of its kind honoring the best gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transsexual (GLBT) websites. There are categories for both industry recognition as well as the surfer’s (aka people’s) choices. Industry categories would include Best Web Host and Best Webmaster Resource; while the surfer’s categories included Best Ethnic-Themed Site and Best Novelties Site.

The Factory was packed and it seemed it was primarily surfers, eager to catch a glimpse of their favorite gay porn star. There was plenty to keep them entertained throughout the evening. These photos are sponsored by the only search engine that only searches .XXX websites; search.xxx. (more…)

Day one of the 2013 XBIZ 360 trade show

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

These photos are from day one of the adult industry trade show, XBIZ 360, held at the Sofitel Hotel in Hollywood. XBIZ is doing something a little different this year. Last year they had XBIZ LA for the Internet webmasters at the Sofitel, then had their retail and media shows at a different location. This year they are having six events, with five of them being held at the Sofitel with the sixth event being the XBIZ Awards which will be Friday at the Century Plaza Hotel.

Today they had the Adult Retail Conference and the Pleasure Products Conference; with the topics ranging from Selling Sex Products Online to The Future of Pleasure Products. They had six panels in all and two keynote speakers for each conference; Ethan Imboden of Jimmyjane for the Pleasure Products Conference and Phyllis Heppenstall of Peekay for the Retail Conference. I have to say, there were some very interesting conversations. (more…)

Photos from the FSC Summit 2012

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

These photos are from the first ever FSC Summit, put on by the Free Speech Coalition and held at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills. As this adult industry summit was held just two days after LA County Measure B was passed, the timing was ideal and probably contributed to the high attendance even though there did not seem to be a lot of pre-show advertising. Topics discussed included emerging world markets, the story behind Measure B and what will happen now as well as diversification of marketing of adult products. I had a prior engagement scheduled so I could not stay until the end, but there will be an awards presentation later.

I only heard about this event two or three days ago so I was pleasantly surprised at the attendance which seemed to be between 200-300 people. The panelists included the lobbyists that presented their ideas on what is on the horizon for the adult industry. One might be surprised to learn that the sky is not falling . . . yet. The fight against Measure B proved that the adult industry has friends in the mainstream, but they need to discontinue the policy of trying to stay under the radar. Adult is an industry, and it is our job to make sure other businesses know it. (more…)
